Colon Michigan and a Covered Bridge

You can't just pass through Colon, Michigan, the Magic Capital of the universe. My grandmother Damon grew up in this small little town. On a recent trip through town, I stopped to photograph this spill way. Not very impressive, I know, but this thing was what I remember as a major waterfall when I was a kid.

After rolling through Colon, I happened across this covered Bridge, the Langley Covered Bridge.  This bridge is the longest covered bridge in the  state of Michigan that spans the St. Joseph River. It was constructed in 1887.

Making Ordinary Extraordinary!

This is a photo of an address plate. I thought the patina on it was interesting. The site of an address plate wasn't interesting, even this number doesn't have much meaning, as far as I know. I won't say what city or street this address is on, but I am sure it means a lot to the people that live at this address. To some, it may be that address that they call their childhood home and carries fond memories.

The picture below is of a house I photographed in Detroit. These are door bells with speaking tubes above each door bell. This isn't so ordinary, but both pictures represent the entrance to a home. The memories made behind these walls...

Lindley Creek Bluegrass CD Jacket

Back in the Fall we worked with a Gospel Bluegrass group, Lindley Creek. The group is made up of the Greer Family. We had a number of projects which included a CD, CD Jacket, event posters, prayer cards and business cards. We created all design elements in house with our photography. The group photos and individual photos were shot by Anna Jaarda.

We did a few things to have fun with the project in our photography studio producing  design elements which included the canvass, a hoop and various strands of thread. A trip to the hobby store really helped this design to come along. A conversation with Kathie Greer really helped with grasping the concept of the project. The Title Song, "There Is A Plan," was the inspiration for the cover.  If you look at the back side of a needle point, it doesn't look very pretty, when looking a the front, you will see the beautiful finished work. This is a picture of how we must see God. We don't understand all of his ways, but there is a plan and a beautiful finished work being done on us.

Click on the images below to get a better view of the print design and individual photos that we added to contribute to the project.

I shot three deer while out doing my day job photographing for my other company, InsPictures.com LLC. I saw these deer plus mamma and pappa deer. I would have photos of them, but they didn't come out to my expectation.

Ansel Adams once said, "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop." I don't think I have 12 significant photographs. I think only impressed myself twice this year. This particular photo did not turn out as good as I had hoped, however, it was still an interesting sight that I wanted to share with you. The good news is that I am always in search of a significant photograph.
